How to choose a Sport Psychology Consultant

1. Ask for credentials and educational background. Most Sport and Performance Psychology Consulants are associated with professional organizations like Association of Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).

2. The consultant should have had some experience dealing with the situation you present to them.

3. The consultant is not delving into personal matters of yours outside their scope of training. If they are a licensed mental health professional, they will have the training to do this. However, a consultant's primary job is to listen and then help create a solution. The process is more instructive than process-oriented.

4. You should feel comfortable talking with the consultant.

5. The consultant is interviewing for the postion. Have a clear idea of what you are needing help with.
